123 are participating in 8th National IT Competition for youth with Disabilities
The National IT Competition 2024 for Youth with Disabilities will be held at the BUBT campus located in Rupnagar, Mirpur, Dhaka, on May 11. 123 disable talented youth are participating in this eighth edition of the day-long competition. They will participate in the competition in these 4 categories: Visually Impaired, Physically Impaired, Speech and Hearing Impaired and Neuro Developmental Disability (NDD).
Contestants in all categories will compete in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point and Internet and Programming (Scratch). Top 3 in each category will be awarded. The winners will have the opportunity to participate in the international competition to be held in the Philippines in October 2024.
Md. Shamsul Arefin, Secretary of Information and Communication Technology Division, will hand over the prizes to the winners at the closing ceremony of the competition.
Last year 117 contestants participated in the finals of this competition. Among them, each winning contestant was awarded a Samsung brand smart phone and a crest and certificate along with gift items from Zenweb to the company. They then got an opportunity to participate in the international competition held in Dubai.
As a result, 6 competitors have increased in this field in one year.
The competition was organized by Bangladesh Computer Council (BCC) of Information and Communication Technology Division in collaboration with Center for Services and Information on Disability (CSID) and Bangladesh University of Business and Technology (BUBT).
BCC executive director Ranjit Kumar said that all the preparations for the competition are almost at an end. He said, through this competition, it will be possible to expand ICT practice among young disabled people.
On the other hand, the manager (systems) of BCC and the coordinator of this event Md. Golam Rabbani thinks that this competition will be very helpful in the preparation of disabled people as suitable and skilled human resources of Bangladesh in building Smart Bangladesh.
